Event Summary - First LINXS Imaging symposium
The LINXS Imaging Theme kick-started its activities at the First LINXS-Imaging symposium at the University “White House” in Lund, 18-19 December 2017. The symposium brought together Lund University researchers interested in imaging with x-rays and neutrons, from acquisition through processing to application with the aim of establishing the community, developing interactions and, above all, identifying working group activities within the LINXS Imaging thematic. 50 participants from the Science, Engineering, Medical and Humanities faculties at LU and MAXIV joined the LINXS imaging core group at the event. Scientists from research areas including materials, mechanics and biomedical sciences to archeology, food science and biology joined those from applied mathematics and x-ray/neutron methods to discuss the use of x-ray and neutron imaging.
Keynote presentations were made by Core Group members, Chris Jacobsen, Rajmund Mokso and Henning Friis Poulsen, on their research using different imaging modalities. Guest speaker, David Paterson (Australian Synchrotron), fresh off the plane from Australia, started his 3-month stay in Lund with an introduction to the possibilities of x-ray fluorescence imaging in a range of scientific areas. Speakers from LU then described their work using x-ray and neutron imaging including in an intense clip session giving snapshots of the community’s interests and capabilities in the thematic area. The last part of the meeting, was split in to lively discussion groups covering “fluorescence imaging”, “4D / linking to models”, “image analysis” and “live / organ imaging”, which identified topics to be developed as working groups in the LINXS Imaging Theme.
